Fear of a Bot Planet, Specifically Toast
OK, this review seems quite pointless as I just read the band broke up, despite the fact I only got this review a few days ago. Oh well, I kind of like the spontaneity of it all. So, Specifically Toast. One of the worst names for a band ever. So bad it’s good? Maybe. The proverbial jury is out on that one. But this is all pretty redundant as they’ve called it a day.

This EP is five tracks of ridiculously chirpy pop-punk. I mean pure pop-punk. The drums sound like a casio drum machine. Power chords are all you’re gonna get from the guitarist. The vocals are high, nasally and sound a bit like they are sung by a 10 year old. But it kind of has a nice charm, for two reasons. One is the fact that no=one in the band clearly gave a toss about trends (unless they were so uber-trendy they were doing utterly the opposite). Second is because it kind of reminds me of all the DIY bands from 7 or 8 years ago. Back then you could not move for shit pop-punk and ska demos. But now, a bit of that stuff is a breathe of fresh air.

ST are gone, but that’s a thought to dwell on kids – pop-punk, the return? Bring it on.
