Live Fast, Go To Bed Early, Calvinball
There's a distinct Latterman-esque feel to Sheffield's Calvinball, which means they are bound to go down well with the majority of Punktastic readers. This 8-track EP/mini-album is the band's first and is a good old fashioned DIY release. And it ain't bad either. Rough, passionate vocals trade dual harmonies, the guitars are rough and ready too and while I'd like a bit more bass in the mix the likes of 'Nobody Throws...' and 'Vegas...' are good songs. 'A Toast To Those Who Drink The Most' is the kind of booze-fuelled anthem that influences a lot of similar bands to this and so doesn't sound too out of place here. 'Vegas...' perhaps as a little The Lawrence Arms tinge to it too. It may be a little too rough at times for some people, but that kind of adds to the charm and appeal. If you enjoy the poppier No Idea bands I'm sure you will like this too.
