Fiction Fever, The Bigger Lights
Summer may be over but the pop-punk train continues in earnest with another solid, summery release. The Bigger Lights may be a new name to many of you, but a few plays of this EP and I'm certain they'll win over a lot of people. Again this is nothing new, but it's done to a very high standard. Pop-punk of this type - Hit The Lights, All Time Low etc - needs slick riffs and polished choruses and The Bigger Lights have them in abundance. It's a very good record, if a little unoriginal.

'Closer' gets the record off to a cracking start, while 'Goldmine Valentine' brings in a little Panic at the Disco influence. There's a neat variation so the six tracks don't sound the same, even though the verse/chorus/verse formula isn't varied too much. 'Reved and Ready' pumps up the volume and cranks the catchyness up a notch, but tell the truth this is a pretty solid release. Doghouse has a good record of introducing new bands and The Bigger Lights could well end up seeing their name in, well, bigger lights...
