Bad News, Ligeia
Massachusetts 4 piece Ligeia have done their fair share of shows in Europe, including these shores and they’ve picked up a decent following in the process. This, their second album, is more of the same kind of metalcore that they’ve been pedalling on their travels for the past couple of years at least. The album is, sonically, pretty damn good work. Ken Susi from Unearth was responsible for twiddling knobs, which probably tells you where it’s coming from.

It’s not that easy to describe the band, but I reckon it’s a cross between Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour and some really dodgy, turn of the millennium nu-metal. At their best this is brutal, but the odd vocal moment even reminds me of the guy from Slipknot/Stone Sour. Don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of the ‘knot now and again, but this just isn’t good news. I know there is nothing cooler than Motley Crue and Dio covers right now, but this world doesn’t need the new Disturbed.

This has its moments, but also reminds me too much of a musical past most people want to block out.
