Provocation of the Nation, Chief
imageThere's a distinct lack of socially aware, semi-political punk rock bands out there at the minute. There are even less who have something to say when they sing, so fair play to Liverpool's Chief for having the balls to go against the grain and sing about something that means something to them. 'Profits In Pockets', 'Trading Records For Hair Products' and 'Passive Politics' all have meanings and while I feel it may come across a little basic at times, at least the thought and principle is there.

The band have got a lot of credit recently and it's easy to see why. This 11-track album flies by in the blink of an eye as the band pound their way through posi-punk rock tunes. For me it gets a little repetitive after a while and although it's done well I did find a few of the tracks started blending in with one another. In shorter bursts this is quite enjoyable. Having inked a deal with Household Name, Chief will go from strength to strength and deservedly so. I'd like to see them try and push their sound on a bit for their next release as 'Provocation'... is a bit samey for me, but I'm certain working with Lil, Kafren and co will do them the world of good.
