Summer Dreams, The Acddents
It doesn’t take long for you to realise once you start spinning The Accident’s third full-length, that this Swedish punk rock four piece have paid little attention to what punk rock has become in the last ten years or so. ‘Summer Dreams’ is an absolutely storming effort at re-creating a forgotten sound that hasn’t been heard since the days of The Ramones and The New York Dolls.
Right away from the start of ’20,000 drinks ago’, it’s a trip down memory of how fast-paced straight-to-the point punk rock songs were, and still are a brilliantly entertaining form of music. Throw some country-influenced guitar solos into the mix and you’ve got the sound of The Accidents.
Weighing in at only thirty-two minutes, the majority of the 12 tracks average under the two-minute mark, the excellent ‘Rocha-Gil-Y Rebel’ being the shortest at 1:29. It’s clear that The Accidents are straight-to-the-point. There’s nothing here that’s going to revolutionise music - not by a long shot – but they make punk rock fun again, and because of that are well worth a listen.
