You Make Me Nervous, If Lucy Fell
Lockjaw Records' recent foray into the European musical market has seen them pool talent from Germany and now Portugal. And while most of their recent releases have been good, they've failed to be great (the Secondmonday CD will blow all of these releases out of the water). If Lucy fell are another example of a band that sounds good, yet doesn't quite have what it takes to make a massive impact. They're perfectly good at what they do, it's just what they do is the same as everybody else. In a way it's disheartening that the trend of sounding the same has managed to worm its way onto the European mainland...

With influences ranging form Botch, Converge to Blood Brothers and These Arms Are Snakes, If Lucy Fell have plenty of highlights, but they don't tend to carry through into full songs. The generic loud/quiet parts are the same as we've come to expect from a million bands, but the vocals are really good throughout. I hate to come across as a bit negative, because If Lucy Fell are better than most bands of this type. But I just feel something is missing. For instance, 'Silk' and the album's title track are good songs, but they lack a zip or chorus that would take them to the next level. While there's plenty to build on, If Lucy Fell provide enough entertainment to recommend at least one album run through.
