Like Vines, The Hush Sound
The simple review of this record should read: 'if you liked The Hush Sound last time round, chances are you'll enjoy 'Like Vines' too'.

If you want a more indepth review, read on - although I'll probably only say the exact same thing in 17 different ways. Part of the Fueled By Ramen stable, The Hush Sound are certainly the easiest on the ear out of all of the label's acts. With a dual male/female vocal attack and the pleasant tinkering of a piano, the band are melodic, cool and crafted and have a set of tunes which, while at times drift along nonchelently, nearly always hit the spot. Their last album made an impact, so expect 'Like Vines' to cement that position on the popular 'we're-closing-in-on-the-mainstream' ladder.

While Bob Morris takes most of the vocal leads, young Greta Salpeter is the star of the show by quite some distance. Her piano playing is good all round, while her vocals are warm and tender and add several layers of excellence. My only gripe with this album is that it comes across as a bit too nice and a bit too safe - each song is good in its own way and The Hush Sound have a distinctive if a bit predictable sound - leaving you sometimes feeling you may have heard it all before. 'Lighthouse' and 'We Interwined' are great pop songs, typical of what to expect on this record.

So, as you may have read at the outset, if you liked The Hush Sound last time round, chances are you'll enjoy 'Like Vines' too. See, I told you that you didn't need to read on!
