Unbowed, The Break In
I think it’s a bit unfair to all parties for me to review a straight edge band. It’s like John Gacey presiding over the trial of Ian Huntley.

Actually it’s not, as none of us are kiddy fiddlers. At least not to my knowledge. Plus that makes little to no sense. I just wanted to make an EXTREEEEME joke. I’m cool like that.

Anyway, this is the kind of album that gets reviews using more adjectives than is quite necessary, usually things like ‘brutal’, ‘feral’ and ‘really quite angry sounding’. I think I can add one in – tiring. Some would call it ‘an assault on the senses’, and so would I if that phrase didn’t have so many positive connotations attached to it. 26 minutes is a bit much for this deluge of rage – in fact, whilst I’m on that point – why are edge kids so angry? They’re clean and live to live life, so why are they so shouty and mean-sounding? This is a generalisation, obviously, and I’m going off on a pointless tangent too.

To be honest, every track on the album is pretty much interchangeable, and contrary to what my best friend the pr says, the band do seem to draw a great deal of parallels with modern day ‘metalcore’ and ‘nu-hardcore’. There’s energy and a real passion to the music, but it’s all a bit much. Stop shouting at me!
