Between The Heart And The Synapse, The Receiving End Of Sirens
Yeah, so, you pretty much get what you expected with this one. Fancy, polished pretentious melodic rock which is more FFAF than Dropkick Murphys. If you’ve heard and enjoyed bands like “My American Heart” recently (or within the last year, they’ve gone from strength to strength) then this CD will probably have some appeal to you. The only thing I’m really hearing here that is making it even vaguely different from a lot of other FFAF sound tosh bands is the inclusion of a sampler (don’t expect garage beats) and massive, and for the most of the time, boring instrumental sections. This CD isn’t without merits though. While some sections of guitar could be torn directly from papa roach’s “infest” album, there is something here on offer which isn’t all too bad, but let me know if you can put your finger on it, because I’m struggling. There is an appeal that makes me want to like it, but my brain swiftly kicks in and tells me I’m listening to just another post year 2000 guitar based alternative band. Which is sadly the case, because otherwise this has no holding power. The guitar rhythms are mostly clever, the drumming is nothing to wet your pants about and the singing is pleasant enough. This record could have been great with more effective use of that sampler, but sadly, it just doesn’t happen.

Some people will love this, and all power to them. If they could tell me why, I’d be grateful, because this CD is just another band trying to make a splash on waters that are ever growing stagnant. You’ll get this CD if you’d like something nice to revise to, but not if you plan to windmill around your bedroom and do cartwheels to it. Because you’d struggle, unless you can pull moves to whale song.
