Unnatural Conspiracy, Indica
Six tracks and 26 minutes of screaming metal spazcore may sound like a daunting CD to get through and dissect, but surprisingly it isn’t. My instant reaction to the six tracks was one that was less than impressed, it simply melded into ‘screamo’ a little to effortlessly and I was set to wield the axe down upon it without the blink of an eye. But perseverance paid off and before I knew it I was instantly enamoured with the pitch perfect production, sublime moments of instrumental genius and the cracking vocals from frontman ‘Flit’ polishing it off nicely. It simply goes to show what can happen if you spend enough time pruning and going over every last inch of the music before you send it to the likes of us to trample over. And because of these redeemable factors it adds up to a surprisingly enjoyable hardcore romp.

It opens superbly as ‘Secret Fits’ comes out kicking and screaming with flailing guitars and moments of serene calm destroyed by rampages of noise which even the most hardened hardcore fanatic would be impressed by. ‘A Minute Inside’ proves a slightly more melodic outing with the crisp singing vocals proving a superb parallel to the noise and proves the finest track of the six. It is continued with the rawkus ‘Pointless Sentiment’ but all ends on the slightly rubbish art track, ‘Early Hour Realisation’.

I wasn’t expecting to like this, it just didn’t fit in with my blinkered view of the CD’s we have been receiving lately, but thank the lord it proved to be a hidden gem. Where the band go from here is yet to be seen as this is the third extended EP they have released in as many years, but if the effort and endeavour continues then it is sure to pay dividends in the not to distant future.
