Watch Protagonist perform ‘Hideaway’ live in session

By Ben Tipple

Floridian punk-rock five-piece Protagonist released their ‘Jean Jackets in June’ EP last year, adding another notch to their sixteen year career. Having formed in 1999, the band’s varying sound has always celebrate an east coast influence. The band balance this with a modern sound, taking them through label Paper + Plastick to SmartPunk.

Performing EP track ‘Hideaway’ live for Static Sessions TV, Protagonist demonstrate their catchy punk melodies and infectious punk. “‘Hideaway’ encompasses the idea of what it feels like to have no home to return to,” says vocalist Peter Marullo. “It is an idea we explored previously in ‘Tunbridge’ and ‘The Stranger The Boy Became,’ from ‘States.’ As I’ve grown older, and moved throughout the United States, things on the homefront have changed. The concept of what was once home becomes more distant with each return visit. In the end, what once was your haven seems like a foreclosed hideaway.”

‘Hideaway’ is taken from the band’s ‘Jean Jackets in June’ EP, available now via SmartPunk.
