Watch Middle Distance perform ‘Coming Of Age’ in session

By Ben Tipple

Middle Distance released the excellent ‘Dahlia’ EP during the summer, a short collection of introspective hook-filled melodic brilliance. Having recently dropped the equally beautiful video for ‘Same Time Next Week‘, we teamed up with the Buckinghamshire four-piece for an exclusive acoustic session of lead single, ‘Coming Of Age’ – filmed by Juliette Carton.

“At the end of 2015 Kylie Jenner posted a video online saying 2016 is the year of ‘realising stuff’,” the band’s Patrick announces, one of many pop-culture references. “She wasn’t wrong, and ‘Coming of Age’ was definitely written as reaction to everything that I’ve realised about my personal life, where I’d like to be in the future and as the title of the song would suggest, growing up. I like to consider this song the Middle Distance version of ‘I’m Not A Girl Not Yet A Women’ by Britney Spears.”

“The location for this shoot was great, it’s at the bottom of the park in my hometown. I had never been there before even though I’ve lived there my whole life and I was blown away when I was shown it by our mate Charlie, who was there the day we shot this session.”

‘Dahlia’ is available now, as Middle Distance prepare tour dates for the end of the year, “to celebrate our best year as band yet.”
