Listen to what Sixteen Scandals have created, and then destroy it

By Ben Tipple

‘Create // Destroy’, the new LP by Toronto punks Sixteen Scandals, is more than just a title. The trio exist around the ethos of creating to destroy.

“Sixteen Scandals was created for the sole purpose of destruction,” the band admit. “The kind of destruction some good friends with a camera, some gasoline and a book of matches get up to.”

“Skateboarding a rusty ramp with no shirt on. Setting fireworks off in your hands. Nothing to show for it but memories, some burns and a smile from ear to ear. We didn’t write a bunch of songs to get rich and quit our day jobs, we wrote them to play in sweaty little clubs to people who like to break themselves for fun.”

The record marks the end of a turbulent period of the band. Having lost two original members since the release of sophomore EP, ‘Ctrl, Alt, Detroit’, it represents natural futility. As Sixteen Scandals ponder, everything is temporary. This attitude influences their sound; dark, destructive and short. The soundtrack to wasted days.

‘Create // Destroy’ will be available from the 4th December 2015.
