Get some obnoxious noise rock in your life thanks to BRITNEY

By Ben Tipple

Edinburgh based noise-rockers were borne out of a simple life goals. “It’s always been a dream of mine to have a disgusting band called BRITNEY,” says bassist Robbie Smith, highlighting that is must be obnoxious and noisy. If new track, ‘Neon Python’, is anything to go by, it’s nothing less than mission accomplished.

As ferocious as they come, there’s more than a little bit of fun in BRITNEY’s sound. Enjoying comparisons to the brilliant Blacklisters and Kong, BRITNEY share their sense of playfulness. As heavy as it sounds, it never takes itself too seriously. There isn’t even a guitar in sight.

“I use two chains of effects into two amps which more or less gives the impression of a bass and a guitar at the same time,” Smith explains. “It’s also given us a pretty unique sound; while the bass does sound huge and like several instruments at once, it lends itself more to single-note riffy stuff than big chords and multiple parts. That’s where the vocals come in. Stewart uses a lot of effects and makes a lot of deliberate rhythmic choices that make the vocals fill the role of what a guitar might do just as much as the bass does.”

“There are times when you can’t quite tell who is making which noise,” he continues, which we find very difficult to argue against, “which is how we like it.”

‘Neon Python’ will appear on BRITNEY’s forthcoming album, ‘BRITN3Y’ – due for release on the 11th March 2016. There are a handful of tour dates scheduled in, with plenty more to be announced in the near future.
