First play of the new Cute Cute Death LP, ‘Vessels’

By Ben Tipple

‘Vessels’, the debut album by Kingston via South Africa five-piece Cute Cute Death, harks back to post-hardcore of the last decade while intertwining complex guitar work and progressive structures of current contemporaries. It’s as much a reflection on times gone by as it is an explosion of modern sounds, a juxtaposition mirrored in the record’s theme.

“‘Vessels’ is an album about growing up and the realisation that not everything is as it seems,” the band explain. “It’s full of our heart, soul and tears. This album is an expression of our life experiences and hopes for the future and our ‘in the moment’ creativeness.”

Rounded off my a healthy dose of metal, Cute Cute Death have already celebrated sharing stages with the likes of Flood Of Red and Broadway. Citing SikTh, glassjaw and Incubus as strong influences, their groove-laden vocal delivery (reminiscent of the latter’s early work) gives Cute Cute Death their own distinctive sound.
