Sing It Loud – Come Around

By paul

Two things struck me when I first started listening to this album.

1) They sound quite a bit like fellow Minneapolis band Motion City Soundtrack (which is inevitable as Josh Cain produced this album).

2) Epitaph have signed some really diverse bands recently. Bring Me The Horizon, I Set My Friends On Fire and now Set It Loud. All totally different. (Please note I said diverse, not good).

‘Come Around’ isn’t a bad album. In places it’s really catchy in a MCS-meets-All Time Low kinda way. In others it just kind of drifts along without really hitting home and making an impact. ‘Don’t Save Me’ certainly fits into the former camp as a bright and spritely effort which begs to be sung along to. But then that’s followed up with the MCS-lite ‘MPLS’ which lacks energy, bite and the distinctive Justin Pierre-esque vox which make their peers stand out from so many other bands.

‘Come Around’ is OK…it’s just not consistently good enough to make me go ‘wow’. Infact, I’d say it’s one of those good albums that is not good enough to be called great.
