Screeching Weasel – Weaselmania

By paul

Screeching Weasel have become synonymous over the years with catchy punk melodies and along with bands like TSOL have been noted as inspiring the mega-hitting Offspring amongst others. This ‘Best of’, as it were, is probably going to be debated in terms of content – what should, shouldn’t and could have been included… but it’s irrelevant. What you have here is a slice of their discography to appeal to a new generation of punk fans who want to know what inspired their mid-to-late ’90s heroes. And well they might.

This CD is contains some of their best work and is guaranteed to have you singing along. Its worth is questionable if you already own a large portion of the ‘Weasel back catalogue but it’s still a nice package and with a huge number of songs in tow it’ll be hard to look past this when you’re next browsing your local independent.

You’re not going to be surprised by anything on here, really. But for those times when you know exactly what you want to play, you want lots of it, and you want it done with that touch of class that most people just can’t quite aspire to, then this record will be there for you. It just hooks into your brain and is quite stubborn when asked to eventually leave. There are a few weak songs, especially later on, but generally it’s a good introduction to the band and definitely value for money… just don’t expect anything groundbreaking.
