Kid Dynamite – Four Years In One Gulp (DVD)

By paul

Under normal circumstances, this would be four or even four-and-a-half stars worthy. I mean the term ‘legends’ gets banded about very easily – and we are as guilty of that as anyone else – but bands such as Kid Dynamite surely deserve those kind of plaudits. I can’t take credit for being into KD for a long time because I’ve only picked up on them recently, but it’s clear their legacy has been left on a myriad of other bands in recent times.

This DVD, released on Jade Tree, is a 90-minute run through the band’s history, with live bits, interviews and general mucking around. It is comprehensive and it is value for money, but the one thing that lets this down is the quality of some of the footage. While Kid Dynamite have never been a band with millions to spend on high quality live footage or made-for-MTV videos, some of the live stuff on offer here is a bit of a letdown. It’s not the quality of the band – after all, they’re great – but the overall sound quality is a bit dreary. And that’s not a fair refelection on a band who have influenced a lot of bands over the years. This DVD is a must for fans – I can’t stress that enough – but the quality of the footage slightly lets it down.
