Hour of the Wolf – Obselete

By paul

‘Obselete’ is out on CD and 10″ EP but according to the band’s own webstore it’s only available to ship within the US, which is a bit strange. Incidentally I was looking for a photo of the album artwork and on my first search the first three listings were all for illegal downloads of this record. Perhaps the two things aren’t a coincidence. Anyway, social commentary aside, Hour of the Wolf play a raspy brand of punk rock that’s soaked in good old fashioned melodies and sing alongs. They’d sit very nicely on the No Idea roster if you’re in need of a comparison. ‘Obselete’ features five new songs and 1 cover (“Bloodstains” by Agent Orange) and is a pretty good listen throughout. ‘Heart Failure’ reminds me of quite a few bands, especially vocally, perhaps even a little Hot Water Music-esque. Whatever. This band are pretty good and this EP, if you can actually get hold of a copy, is well worth a listen.
