World’s Scariest Police Chases – ‘NOFX and Out Come the Wolves Dookie’

By Tom Aylott

You have to hand it to World’s Scariest Police Chases. ‘NOFX and Out Come the Wolves Dookie’ is simultaneously terrible and excellent as an album title, and it does tell you most things that you need to know about the band. Not because they even sound that much like a combination of Rancid, NOFX and Green Day, just that they’re a bunch of punks playing juvenile (but actually being a lot smarter than that) and not taking themselves too seriously.

With song titles like ‘Americunt’, ‘No Dads No Bastards’, ‘Fuck You Dad’ and ‘Start (Fucking Yourself) Today’ and an album that barely scrapes half an hour, you can see why a few might find the band a little throwaway on first impressions, but World’s Scariest Police Chases are incredibly listenable in reality. The album is fast, fun, loud and made for big sing alongs (and if the band get around to reading this I’d absolutely recommend checking out Summerslam 88 and planning a UK tour so I can have a fantastic evening), and it’s exactly the sort of thing that people get into punk for.

If ‘NOFX and Out Come the Wolves Dookie’ doesn’t put a smile on your face, then this sort of band just isn’t for you anyway, and the rest of us can sit back in the knowledge that punk rock doesn’t have to be so self-important and serious. Great stuff.
