Phathom – S/T

By paul

I can’t ‘phathom‘ this one out. Ho hum. At times Phathom, who hail from La Crescenta over in the US, sound like a very melodic Finch. At other times they just sound like a very generic alternative ‘rock’ band. The hooks are there – ‘A New Escape’, for example, sounds particularly big – and all the other requirements are ticked off the checklist. But for me it just lacks an honesty and passion. A lot of big bands get away with this kind of music – we see it on MTV all the time – and so Phathom are probably destined for the big leagues. But that doesn’t make it much cop.

And anyway, isn’t it fathom?
