My First Tooth – My First Tooth & The Rubies EP

By paul

I know this has been out a while now, but it fell to the bottom of the pile and I wanted to rectify that error with a few words as this record is worthy of your attention. In crude terms, My First Tooth remind me a little of The Remarkable Rocket; on face value it’s an acoustic project with cute little songs that sound pretty rough and ready. But scratch away at the surface and you’ve a joyful little record full of intricate guitar parts and subtle extras that are hidden away. ‘Judge and Jury’ is a lovely little song, as is the opening ‘Sleet and Snow’. There’s an array of instrumentation on this record to keep it interesting, from violins to percussion, guitars to handclaps. But underneath it all is a real warmth and charm that makes My First Tooth really difficult to dislike. Highly recommended.
