Greyhaven – ‘Breathe’

By Adam Rosario

Formed in 2015 and hailing from London, Greyhaven have been on a hot streak recently, releasing two very well received EPs on the way to this third collection. Having released ‘State of Mind’ last year, ‘Breathe’ marks the quintet’s best work to date, and will undoubtedly build on their already very loyal and rabid fanbase. The Metalcore style growls are gone, replaced this time by uplifting vocals that still create pulsating music.

Opening song ‘Truth’ chugs along with venom as Sam Paterson’s soaring vocals contrast against the heavy riffs and intricate drum patterns. Comparisons have been made with the legendary Alexisonfire and it’s very easy to see why. For a band who are two years old, their progression and song writing nous is something to behold. The vocal layering on ‘When We Divide’ is very impressive and leads into the opening wobbles of ‘Crows’, which simmers before exploding into a tornado of noise.

The massive title track ‘Breathe’ brings the EP to a satisfying close and sees Greyhaven add another string to their bow with an opening jangling guitar riff and almost whispered vocals. Channelling their inner 30 Seconds To Mars and present day Bring Me The Horizon, it’s a further example of the euphoric listening experience that Greyhaven have created.

The talent on show throughout this EP is incredible to behold and experience. Greyhaven has crafted a sound that belies their two year existence. With Paterson occupying the frontman role with ease and confidence, and the band showcasing endless creativity coupled with growing musical maturity, they’ll be a force in years to come. Whilst only four songs long, the irresistible combination of hooks and riffs definitely leave the listener wanting more. The eagerly awaited debut album, when it arrives, will surely catapult Greyhaven to even greater heights.
