Giants – S/T

By paul

This is a pretty impressive release. I’d not heard of Giants before; they tell me they’re a young band from Essex. This six-tracker is short and sharp, full of bollocks and with some pretty meaty riffs and breakdowns. I’m sick and tired of bands who just detune their guitars and scream all over it, so I was delighted that although there’s plenty of both on this record, it’s written and mixed in a really impressive way. The vocal melodies on ‘Home To Home’, especially the gang vocal ‘woahs’, are really, really good. Throw in the guitar work on that track and it’s pretty special.

Actually there isn’t a bad song on the record. ‘Your True Colours’ is just 77 seconds long but rocks like a motherfucker, while the opening, atmospheric ‘Giants‘ shows the band are far from a one-trick pony. I get the impression we will be hearing a lot more of these boys in the future. Ones to watch for sure.
