Dead To Fall – Villainy and Virtue

By

If you are a fan of some of the better known Victory records bands like me, such as Thursday and TBS and stumble across this little beauty by Dead To Fall, and imagine it to sound anything like their label mates you are very naive. I was, and as I settled down to listen to this record with drink in hand on a quiet afternoon I nearly choked with shock… I thought I had mistakenly placed Slipknot in my CD player.

To put it mildly I strongly dislike this album. It reminds me of the Kerrang music scene around 5 years ago when Slipknot and bands like Mushroom head encouraged people to say People=Shit and wear spiky dog collars round their throats. I guess what I’m trying to say is that this record comes across as a new metal classic with elements of Metallica – esq. solos and “foot on the monitor swing your head in an anti – clock wise motion” riffs. Tracks like “Epilogue” are just tasteless. Simple As. What is attractive about a guy, hurling and gut wrenching vocally whilst the guitarists shred at the lowest tuned notes they can find?

I honestly gave this album about 15 minutes listening time, before changing it over to something different. People will probably hammer me for this review but I just find the record unlistenable and down right awful. I have an open mind to lots of different types of music, and can usually tune into what many artists are knocking out, but this is just something I could never grow into.
