Say “yes” to Edmonton’s new track, ‘No’

By Ben Tipple

Straight out of Gainesville, Florida – in some ways the spiritual home of DIY and home to the endearing craziness of FEST – Edmonton are taking the power back with their forthcoming EP, ‘No’. Having tackled the loss thereof in their debut full-length, ‘Walk It Off’, ‘No’ is the antithesis.

Edmonton explain: “No is the most powerful word in the English language. If you are able to say no, you have a rare privilege. I can’t say no to having a job; I need food and a place to live. And then I can’t say no to my boss; he controls my employment and thus my money and thus my ability to live a healthy and productive life. There’s a whole host of things we can’t say no to because they are areas of life where we have little control.”

“But there are some times where we can say no,” Edmonton continue. “I can say no to sitting on my ass all day. I can say no to being a slacker. I can say no to being sedentary and eating like shit. We all have areas where we have control, and saying no to our negative and lazy sides is a difficult but rewarding path to self-improvement.”

With the five short tracks that form the EP, Edmonton are putting the power back in their hands. It’s about taking control in the areas where you can, improving life in the areas where you can’t.

The album will be available on vinyl and digital formats on March 1st, 2016 via Chisel Records, available to pre-order here and here.
