First play of ‘Yesterday a Hero (But Not Today)’ from Pocket Science

By Glen Bushell

It doesn’t matter where you are in life, music can always be the thing that pulls you through. That was the case for Pocket Science vocalist, John Michael. He used the writing of the bands new single, ‘Yesterday a Hero (But Not Today)’, as his escape. Today we are bringing you the first play of the track, which comes ahead of the Nashville punk band’s new EP, ‘The Cult of Alien Jesus.’

“I was dealing with some pretty heavy family drama about a year ago and it always seemed I had to be the hero that glued everyone back together,” explains Michael. “I had finally had enough of it and decided I was done being the hero. So as a married adult man, my wife and I built a tent out of our couch cushions and demoed out a really quirky version of this tune that sounded like Vampire Weekend for babies. My wife helped write a bit of it then I showed it to our drummer and bassist Tate and Jack who made it waaaayyyy more rock n roll. In the studio we had our former guitar player Drew “@shredriffs” Creal rip some of his gnarly leads on it and this is what we got!”

‘The Cult of Alien Jesus’ is released on August 5th an is available to pre-order here. For more information on Pocket Science, head over to their Facebook page.
