First play of the ‘The Best Is Behind You’, the new LP by The Alpacas

By Ben Tipple

Hailing from the Canadian city of Barrie, Ontario, The Alpacas have enlisted producer Kevin Dietz on their new LP, ‘The Best Is Behind You’. His eclectic back-catalogue, having worked with the likes of Alexisonfire and Placebo as well as Nelly Furtado and The Cranberries, is indicative of the quartet’s style. Drawing influence from The Replacements, citing their personal song-writing style, The Alpacas create a sound uniquely placed between country tinged alternative rock and heartfelt punk, led by emotionally charged storytelling.

“‘The Best is Behind You’ deals with life in your twenties and thirties. The passage of time, and reconciliation are two important themes that inform the lyrics on this record,” they explain. “We realize that melody and noise make a great team, and we have definitely applied that knowledge to our sound.” There’s a distinct bite between the two, pulled together through an energetic sound even as the country vibes are presented at their most stripped right.

“We strived to capture the spirit of a live performance on this album,” The Alpacas continue. “We made a point to remain spontaneous, and not overthink every detail in the studio. A record like The Ramones debut is a great example of that method. It’s always amazing when songs can make you feel like you are in a bar, watching an artist give it their all on the stage. Music should take you to different place. It’s nice when a recording can be a soundtrack to daydreams.”

‘The best Is Behind You’ will be available from the 14th October 2016 through Willow Music. You can stream it exclusively below ahead of release.
