Life is consistently filled with ups and downs, a fact that has led to almost all creative output. For Portsmouth based screamo outfit Scared Of Everything, their current material is more of an emotional vent than ever before. ‘Dishwashing Melodies’, the latest track by the five-piece, is seething with volatile anger and frustration. High-tempo drums underpin emotive vocals and thunderous soundscapes, exploding in a rush of fury.
“We have passion for other artists who create honest and dangerous music; artists who aren’t afraid to explore the gritty components of human existence,” the band’s James Stelzer explains of the track. “Lyrically, the aim is to accurately address the painful feelings that come with depression – in the ‘real world’, and in the realm of artistry. I wanted to use these numbing, isolating experiences that have plagued me for much of my life to create something I can be proud of.”
‘Dishwashing Melodies’ will appear on the band’s forthcoming ‘2016’ EP, due for release on the 15th July Truthseeker Music (in partnership with Holy Roar Records) and SmithsFoodGroup DIY. It sees Scared Of Everything at their most visceral.
“The songs that make up the release ‘2016’ are intended to give a taste of the LP we are in the process of writing, without overstaying our welcome,” Stelzer adds. “Since Scared of Everything formed in late 2014 we’ve been experimenting with different components of our sound to find the perfect balance between chaotic and cathartic, and with this release we believe we’ve finally created something that encapsulates our influences as a band (such as Maths, Self Defense Family and mewithoutYou) – for now, at least.”
