Red Light Runner – ‘What Are You Thinking About?’

By Jess Tagliani

Hailing from Kent, four piece band Red Light Runner have returned after a six year break to start creating their own mix of pop tinged emo and indie once again. After a small taster in 2014, with the release of their double A-side single ‘Lucky Thirteen/Just Might Find’, they’ve come back with their newest EP ‘What Are You Thinking About?’

Opening track ‘First Time’ is a rush of unadulterated energy; slick riffs crash down atop of tight drum work, before launching into title track ‘What Are You Thinking About?’ The vocals on this track are reminiscent of early Jimmy Eat World: dynamic, bouncy, and vibrant.

With a dollop of feel good heartiness, Red Light Runner continue onwards with their fun and quirky release. ‘Make You Pay’ piles on the gang vocals well, without sounding too much like a cliché, and it immediately becomes a track that will see crowds in small rooms put their arms around each and sing along with enthusiasm and pure joy. ‘Right Place Wrong Time’ sees the killer vocals make their mark once again; they’re strong and steady, refusing to waver whatsoever, whilst closing track ‘Be Mine Again’ ends this release with a shot of fizzy adrenaline.

Red Light Runner may have taken a long break but that doesn’t mean that they’ve lost any of their edge or spark. In fact, judging by ‘What Are You Thinking About?’, it’s safe to say that these guys have come back stronger than ever.
