PINTS – ‘Still Drinking, Still Smoking, Still Gambling’

By James Davenport

If you needed any proof that punk’s not dead then look no further than PINTS. Although the group’s third effort only consists of three relatively short songs, it will stop you in your tracks.

‘Still Drinking…’ is fast and ferocious. Bounding into action with its catchy as hell guitar line accompanied by Charlie Longman’s vicious vocal delivery is an instant reminder that this is what they do best. Lyrics such as “I’m never gonna stop, it’s a life for me” suggest you either get on board or get out of the way because they’re not stopping or slowing down for anyone.

Telling it how it is, ‘You Are Shit’ oozes with undeniable confidence and cockiness. A massive fuck off to pretentious and pretty boy poster bands that are in this for the wrong reasons. There’s a contrast between the two vocal tracks, Charlie’s harsh and aggressive tones are counterbalanced by Tom Hogan’s more traditional ‘Oi’ sounding yelps.

The EP closes out with the track ‘Weekend Warrior’, another drink fuelled anthem about living for the weekend. Again layered with catchy riffs and hooks as well as boastful lyrics about going to the pub and drinking “more than all of ya.”

Although only three songs long, the EP ‘Still Drinking…’ packs a serious punch and PINTS have all the attitude to go with it. PINTS clearly have their roots embedded in the old ways of punk and oi as well as taking influence from modern hardcore. It makes their sound both unique as well as somewhat familiar. Without hesitation, pick up a pint and listen to this.
