Whereas some are trying to separate themselves from overt 90s influence, Leeds based shoegazers Waterfall aren’t shying away from their roots. Their video for ‘Invisible (Am I?)’, taken from their ‘Wearing Thin’ EP, perfectly channels the era with its grainy imagery, laid over the band’s densely distorted sound – drawing from the likes of My Bloody Valentine.
“As it is our debut video, we all had weird and wonderful ideas for what we wanted the video to look like, but we weren’t sure if the ideas would even be possible when put into practice,” Waterfall explain. “However with Chris’ [Poplar Productions] help the visuals that we had in our heads were projected perfectly in the video. We really wanted to capture some of that (ever popular) 90s nostalgia that’s prominent in our musical influences. The hazy, overlaid and flickering effects throughout the video can also be perceived to symbolise the lyrical themes within the song such as feeling useless/worthless and like you don’t matter, or are invisible to the one person that you wish could see all of you.”
Waterfall will be playing at Eiger Music Studios in their hometown of Leeds on the 5th March, joined by Mannequin and Autumn Diet Plans.
