There are many acoustic guitar playing troubadours out there, most of whom use negativity as their muse while writing songs. Thankfully, when Marc Halls found himself in a dark place, he pulled himself out of it, and turned it around to put together his new EP ‘Bittersweet Memories’, of which we are bringing you the music video for the title track today.
“Late last year I went through a bit of a strange phase” says Halls of his new material. “For the first time in years I had no real musical plans; no tours, no release, I was uninspired to do anything musical at all. I started focusing pretty much all my attention on negativity, sitting around all day watching upsetting documentaries and getting bitter at the state of the world. It put things in perspective and made me realise that I’ve spent way too much time stressing over my ‘musical career’ as if it were anything but something I just love to do.”
From this, came a more folk-oriented sound underneath a deeply introspective narrative, after Halls felt rejuvenated enough to create again. The efforts he went too have paid off as well, with a successful appearance at Field Day Festival under his belt, and a recent UK headline tour, the sky is the limit for this honest singer-songwriter.
