Watch Boy On Guitar perform live for Cavis Tapes

By Glen Bushell

We haven’t been able to get enough of Boy On Guitar this year. So much so, that we have teamed up with Cavis Tapes to bring you an excellent live session from the band. Vocalist Genesis Jennings performed two tracks on her own; a stripped back version of their ‘Downtown’ from their 2015 ‘We Wait’ EP, and a cover of The Kooks track, ‘I Already Miss You.’

“Working with Cavis Tapes was an all-around great time,” says Jennings of the session. “We met Chris the same day we recorded the videos and we are very glad to have met him. He is an incredible person and really fun to work with.

“I chose Downtown as the first song to record because it is the song of ours that mostly feels like summer to me. The song itself is a small and subtle cry for attention that says “I want you, and at the same time I’d like for you to know that I can get by on my own… but I do wish you wouldn’t let me hang like this.” I love playing this song because it’s a fun and quick stab at my ego. Haha.”

“The cover I chose was ‘I Already Miss You’ by The Kooks. They are one of my favourite bands of now, and I can’t deny the power their music’s charm has over me! One day I decided to make my own stripped down cover version of ‘I Already Miss You’ and ever since then it’s been my favourite go to cover, for the same reasons I like to play our song ‘Downtown.’ I thought these songs would be perfect together for a short and sweet video set.”
