Stream ‘Obelisk’, the new track by Calling Apollo

By Ben Tipple

There are a handful of bands lighting a fire under the British alternative rock scene. With the likes of Arcane Roots leading the charge with the expansive blend of melody, aggression and experimentation, Cardiff five-piece Calling Apollo now tread a similar path, unleashing the head-turning ‘Obelisk’.

“We find ourselves presented with so much conflicting information that is designed to make us feel a certain way and a lot of people have no idea what to think and who to trust,” says vocalist Christian James Neale. “This song is is how I deal with the propaganda war.”

Led by Neale’s notable vocals, the track twists between ominous and euphoric melody, welcoming a progressive sound that occasionally nodes towards Mars Volta and their ilk.

Stream ‘Obelisk’ below. The track is taken from Calling Apollo’s ‘The Great Depression: Act I’ EP, due on the 19th August 2016. For more on Calling Apollo head to Facebook and Bandcamp.
