Punk trio Radkey know a thing or two about heavy. Raised on a cocktail of musical styles, perhaps most notably blues and punk, the brothers have forged a style that is in some ways indebted to everyone from Motorhead to the Sex Pistols and all angry blues musicians that come to mind.
So when the Radke (their surname, not a spelling mistake) brothers talk about heavy, they know heavy. They also know catchy. Radkey might not be the first band that springs to mind when discussing catchy melodies, in fact brains are likely to sift through a whole load of incessant pop-tunes before even settling on punk, but there’s a distinct melodic charm to the riff laden sounds emanating from the St. Joseph, Missouri rockers.
Not able to choose tracks from their own full-length debut, ‘Dark Black Makeup’, which in itself is loud and catchy as fuck, Radkey give us 5 tracks that more than fulfill the criteria.
While you’re busy having your face melted, remember that Radkey are on tour right now across the UK so you can experience them in their full catchy, heavy glory.

Goes Cube – ‘Grinding The Knife Blade’
We’ve been Goes Cube fans a really long time and they’re a really huge influence in our band, so this one’s easy. This song comes directly after the extremely heavy ‘Bluest Sky’, and it really takes you by surprise.
Fishbone – ‘Servitude’
One of our favourite Fishbone songs ever. This riff kills so hard. Love how Fishbone is able to have, and successfully pull off so many sounds.
Megadeth – ‘Symphony of Destruction’
This song has like, 20 solos in it. That’s all that really needs to be said, but besides that it has a pretty great hook.
Metallica – ‘Motorbreath’
We love Metallica so this one had to make the list. You can’t actually hear this song without it getting stuck in your head, for at least two days.
Queens Of The Stone Age – ‘Sick Sick Sick’
Queens of the Stone Age are consistently great and they always have really heavy shit. We chose this one because it’s gotta be one of their weirdest songs, and it’s really, really catchy.
If that’s got you going, here’s Radkey’s ‘Dark Black Makeup’ in full.
