This weekend, we’re heading to Tolmin, Slovenia for the third edition of Punk Rock Holiday festival. We’ve been covering the event over the last few months, and our excitement has been stacking up as the days go on.
The scene of the festival look absolute ridiculous, and with one of the stages being called “the beach stage”, we can’t help but have a sit down every time we think about how fun it’s going to be.
We’ve been picking over the line up as there’s plenty of band’s we’ve ever heard of playing the festival (-good thing-), so let us take the shine off of your bad luck of not being able to go with this handy list of things you should be jealous of.
#1 The Weather
Forget the Reading downpours and the sideways winds at Download festival, Slovenia has some of the most incredible summer weather, and right now it looks like we’re in for an average temperature of 28 degrees over the festival days. Thought we’ve obviously jinxed it now, it certainly beats British summertime for sunshine hours.
#2 The Scenery
As great as Glastonbury can look, Reading isn’t exactly the prettiest sight in the world, but Tolmin sits in one of the most incredible valleys in Central Europe. You won’t even care about camping when you’re waking up to clean rivers and lush green surroundings.
#3 The Beer
Everyone knows English beer sucks, and we’ve always been treated to great stuff when we’re out in Europe. We’re not sure what Punk Rock Holiday are serving up, but the average beer price in Slovenia is €2.40 for half pint regional beers, so we’re definitely not expecting to complain. The beers at Download were a tragic £4.50 this year, and we’re certainly not getting paid any more!
#4 The Ticket Price
Four days of punk for less than €70. You really can’t moan about that. Well I guess you could if you didn’t like the line up, which brings us too…
#5 The Bands
Points 1-3 are awesome, but we were raised on muddy fields, expensive beer, shit weather and that road through Reading, so it’s really a bonus. The line up has to be good enough to get you out there in the place, and Punk Rock Holiday definitely ticks the boxes.
This year, Millencolin, Propagandhi, H2O and Anti Flag head up the bill, but you may also have heard of the Menzingers, SNUFF, Antillectual, Suicidal Tendencies, Swingin’ Utters and many more of the sweet bands on the bill.
We’ve also taken the time to listen to every band on the line up we haven’t heard before, and the ones we’re most looking forward to seeing are:
Paper Arms
Foolish Wives
4th N Goal
Lineout
Fuck You Fucking Fuckers
Waiting For Better Days
Thirteen Days
Despite Everything
Wham Bam Bodyslam
We could be more excited about next week’s festival, and it’s sure to be an absolute belter. For all the info you could need on the festival, head to http://www.punkrockholiday.com/.
We plan on making you come next year, so keep your eyes peeled for interviews, photos and a full review of the weekend once we’re back…
