First play of the new track by Choir Vandals

By Ben Tipple

St. Louis based Choir Vandals sit somewhere between the state-side indie movement and distinct US emo stalwarts such as Seahaven. On ‘At Night And In The Rain’ their sound is predominantly driven by frontman Austin McCutchen’s slurred vocals, layered on-top of an unmistakably melancholic vibe.

“We are all very proud of ‘At Night’,” McCutchen speaks of the forthcoming EP from which ‘At Night And In The Rain’ is taken. “We can all agree that this is the next step that we wanted to take after our last EP ‘Darker Things’. I think ‘At Night’ captures more of an honest sound because it is exactly what we want to sound like.”

“You can expect a lot more reverb and a lot more noise,” McCutchen goes on to say of the EPs other three tracks. “It’s definitely a lot more in your face than the last release. With our last EP, Micah [Kelleher] had just joined the band about a week before recording, so everything was really rushed. This time around we got to take our time and enjoy the process a lot more and I definitely think that made a huge difference.”

Having formed just over a year ago following the demise of a number of other St. Louis based bands, Choir Vandals have been making a name for themselves with their downbeat indie. As well as the EP’s release, the band are currently gearing up for a US tour alongside Dads and Tiny Moving Parts.

‘At Night’ will be released on the 27th October via FITA Records & 6131 Records.
