First play of the new Ishmael EP, ‘Mention’

By Ben Tipple

It’s not easy to classify Brooklyn based three piece Ishmael, especially when their sound deliberately defies pigeon-holing. On ‘Mention’, their new four-track EP, Ishmael draw in progressive, math and emo elements that borrow heavily from their experience in the New York City indie scene.

Their instrumentation hints at British post-rock outfits Maybeshewill and Three Trapped Tigers, whilst there’s a distinct stateside emo overtone which delves into atmospheric scremo at times.

Ishmael are the first band to be signed to New Jersey based label All Sounds, who “couldn’t be happier supporting an act that is pushing themselves and the sounds of their influences into a more abstract state of the art sound.”

If you like what you hear, you can purchase ‘Mention’ via BandCamp.
