Blowouts learn from punk veterans on new album

By Ben Tipple

‘A Veteran Of Sorts’, the debut album by Plymouth four-piece Blowouts, contains more than a few nods to the band’s forefathers. Combining post-punk with melody, lazy comparisons to the likes of Alkaline Trio and Misfits do little to compliment the contemporary twists that have seen Blowouts join Gnarwolves, Great Cynics and Bangers on stage.

Frontman Brad Sherman describes ‘A Veteran Of Sorts’ as “a cavalcade about how obsession can lead to a loss of reality and context, and how difficult the realisation of reality can be to bare and accept,” providing a background to the somewhat gloomy atmosphere that could see Blowouts share stages with fellow purveyors of goth-punk.

That said, ‘A Veteran Of Sorts’ never fully commits to one genre, retaining a raw, traditionalist sound that places Blowouts well beyond their years as a band; deliberately weary in both content and sound.

The self-released record will be available from Friday 23rd October 2015, supported by a number of live shows across the south of England.
