In early July The Format will make ‘Dog Problems’ available digitally for free over a two-week period. Singer Nate Ruess explains: “We understand the reality; kids aren’t buying music. We’re going to see if we can’t pick up 20,000 new sets of ears by offering the album for free. We’re betting that the money lost on those record sales will come back when people come see us live this summer.” The Format will also shoot a live DVD on June 14, at a sold out Mayan Theatre in LA. The DVD will be directed by Sam Erickson (My Morning Jacket, O.A.R., John Mayer). The night will feature Dog Problems in its entirety, with over a dozen guest musicians on stage. The release date will fall sometime in October.
