Cheers to Kenny for this – the lowdown on what on Earth is up with Stapleton. Basically one webzine ran a news story suggesting the band were splitting, but it would appear this is not so. Here is what Ian Stapleton has said through the words of Kenny: “Stapleton are NOT splitting up. Ian says he was quoted out of context by Drowned in Sound who reported only what they wanted to hear. He admits they’ve only done 4 gigs this year (3 with the Get Up Kids and 1 with Idlewild), these have been their most enjoyable and successful, financially and otherwise. Last night – at the Douglas gig in King Tut’s – was the first time the 3 had been in the same room since the Idlewild gig, but that was only because Al was in NYC visiting his girlfriend and taking a bit of time off. In fact they were actually asked to take the support for last night’s gig at the last minute but felt they shouldn’t since they haven’t played together for so long. They’re planning to go back in the studio soon, and On The Enjoyment Of Unpleasant Places is going to get re-released soon but they’re having a few legal issues with that just now.”
