German industrial metal powerhouse Rammstein have been confirmed as the third Download Festival headliner, taking to the Main Stage on Friday 10th June. The band will join Black Sabbath, who head up the festival on Saturday 11th, and Sunday’s Iron Maiden.
The announcement appears to have been made early following online speculation and leaked posters. Organisers have faced some criticism from those hoping for an original line-up, with all three having headlined Download Festival in the past.
2016 will mark the fourth appearance by Iron Maiden, having headlined the first ever event back in 2003. Ozzy Osbourne’s Black Sabbath headlined in 2005 and 2012, with Rammstein making their previous appearance in 2013.
Download Festival will take place at its usual venue of Donington Park, the “spiritual home of rock”, from the 10th until the 12th June 2016.
Early bird tickets for the event have now sold out, with general sale open on Friday at 9AM. More details are available on the official Download Festival website.
