playlounge have released the video for ‘fan fiction’, taken from their recent ‘pilot’ LP. The South London shoegaze inspired noise duo have also released a brand new track, ‘day trip to the plague pit’, as a free b-side.
The video was created by Lady Neptune band member and London artist Moe Meade.
“I’ve been wanting to make a music video for a while where I hand taped loads of old super 8 footage together. I had a huge bag of old reels I’d collated and was itching to use them,” Moe Meade spoke about creating the video.
“When I offered to make playlounge a video it was the first idea that I thought of, I know they’ve used super 8 in the past and I think it really suites their aesthetic as a whole, and also in relation to their album cover photo.”
“A lot of super 8 videos are made with a “here’s my diary” feel and I wanted to steer well clear of that, and instead make it a little more abstract and with a free hand. It was really an experiment out of curiosity. The only rules I had in my head was that it had to be as much HAND made as It could be.”
“It felt too easy just splicing old films together, so I did some scratch marks over the footage and then posted it to a friend of mine, the illustrator Alex Humphreys, to draw her animations over it too. She has made a few 16mm animations in the past by drawing and scratching directly on the film and she’s a total pro at it, I’ve always wanted to collaborate with her because she is a genius.”
‘pilot’ is available now via Dog Knight Productions.
