Placebo reveal MTV Unplugged acoustic performance of ‘The Bitter End’

By Ben Tipple

“It wasn’t going to be enough to just sit at the piano and strip the songs down to their bare bones,” says Placebo’s Brian Molko of their forthcoming MTV Unplugged release. The revamp of the iconic music channel’s series forms part of Placebo’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

The release, due on the 27th November, was recorded live at The London Studios. It sees the band reinvent a whole range of tracks. “The biggest challenge was to recreate these songs in a new and appealing way,” says Molko. “Because at the end of the day, we, too, wanted to be surprised.”

As well as their huge singles, the release also features the odd surprise. “MTV Unplugged’ gave us the opportunity to explore the acoustic and more experimental side of our music, and to play a few songs we had not performed like this before,” Molko adds, referring in part to the band’s first ever live performance of ‘Bosco’.
