EXCLUSIVE: Stream a brand new song from The Word Alive on Punktastic ahead of release

By Tom Aylott

The Word Alive release their new album ‘Life Cycles’ this week, and we’ve got an exclusive stream of a track from the release.

You can listen to ‘Hidden Lakes’ using the embedded YouTube player in this article, and also check out what the band had to say about the track.

You can read what we thought of ‘Life Cycles’ in our review, which can be found over in our reviews section.

The band are set to tour the UK in November with Parkway Drive and Emmure.

“Hidden Lakes is the 1st song I wrote for the record. I had been thinking about life, and family a lot. I’ve been away from my family on and off for almost 8 years. 6 of which being on tour. That got me to thinking about my grandfather who passed away in 2008. The only portion of my life where I can remember before he was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer’s, was when I was too young. I took for granted the stories he would tell me about his amazing life. His time in World War II, and being injured… So many things I wish I had taken the time to truly listen to. This is a song I wrote for him, about him, and in honor of his life. I hope if he were here, that he would be proud of the man I’ve become. Tony wrote this song shortly after we released our deluxe edition of Deceiver. I feel it shows the steady progression from Deceiver to our Life Cycles sound. The song title is a reference to the last place I had a deep conversation with my grandfather while he was still lucid. Hidden Lakes is an apartment complex in Dayton Ohio where I lived for a short time, so I wanted to reference that moment in time.”
