Cape Canaveral call it quits

By paul

Nottingham’s Cape Canaveral have called it a day. In a statement, the band said: “Well, the time is upon us. Considering how old a couple of us are I’m surprised that this hasn’t come any sooner. So, let me not pontificate any further. The management group at CC Towers have decided it’s time for us to liquidate our assets and run off into the sunset with the huge wads of cash we’ve made. However, that isn’t the case. The simple truth is, we’re calling it a day! The good ship Cape Canaveral has finally run aground. We’re selling it off piece by piece to any takers. The plan is to fulfil our gig commitments, which is one in Derby on 17th October at The Vic Inn with Avast and another in Doncaster on 21st October at The Leopard with label mates Alicia Smiles, and anymore, if there are any offers? Then play a final date in our own town, GunCity UK, Nottingham. We hope it to be at The Old Angel too, somewhere we haven’t played in a long while but our spiritual home none the less. The plan is to stop playing live and technically cease to be a band by the end of November. We do however, plan to release our last recorded material. It’ll be a 6 track affair called ‘Chapters’. Very apt now considering this is the closure of one chapter although the title has more far reaching reasons for each of as to why it is called that. You can hear the odd track here on Myspace, the only brand new track that hasn’t been up here will be, If I Could Try Harder. We’re also pleased to announce that this new material will appear on the new label Inhaler Records. Hopefully it’ll be an Oct/Nov release. Ironically, it’s the best stuff we’ve ever done and after 3 and a half years as a four piece, it’s the only stuff we recorded. Never let it be said we weren’t prolific. Why are we saying goodbye to it all? Well, that’s nowt to do with you although suffice to say it’s not because we hate the sight of each other or hate the music. Lets just leave it that we don’t feel as ‘On Fire’ as we did before. There will be more to say from all of us I’m sure of that. We have the dates and the release to look forward to. We have all these great new people we can call our friends that would’ve never have met if we didn’t have the band. It’s been the laziest blast I’ve ever had and ever will. I’ll miss it like fuck but hey, all good things come to an end. Fader down, lights off.”
