Brand New are turning into that girlfriend or boyfriend who threaten a break-up every time you have an arguement. In the latest twist in the “are Brand New actually calling it a day?” saga, frontman Jesse Lacey tells fans at their first co-headline show with Modest Mouse that they are done, and that “it makes nights like this all the more special.”
The band had originally suggested that they would be calling it a day in 2018, which seemed like an odd thing to do at the time. Now it all just seems even more peculiar.
It’s starting to feel like the band are keeping their career alive – a career which doesn’t actually need anything more than their music to survive – by drip-feeding vague shock announcements that may or may not be true.
It’s probably about time Brand New accept that crying wolf is a losing game.
