Self-confessed bunny enthusiasts, ZEBRAHEAD aren’t backwards in heralding the sunshine of the rapcore dream; a flag they’ve happily flown since 1996. The OC fivesome’s 8th studio album ‘Get Nice!’ keeps tongues firmly in cheeks (‘Nudist Priest’ anyone?) while still packing the punch where it counts.
Sharp, smart and industrious, Zebrahead tick over like the well-oiled machine they’ve made themselves with fourteen sweetly produced pop songs; each snowballs into the next without dropping momentum. Being as musically tight as expected from a band with this heritage, ‘Get Nice!’ fails to disappoint: ‘Nothing To Lose’, ‘The Joke’s On You’ and ‘I’m Definitively Going To Miss You’ particularly illuminating such a summery deck.
Playmates and obesity may be content of songs gone by but Zebrahead haven’t lost sight of themselves despite the apparent slight maturing in sound; a distinctive stronghold to their roots and an acute focus on the contagious kind of fun make sure they’ve not sold out on what they are. Huge pop-punk riffs, enormous gang-choruses and trademark dual vocal leads make this album yet another feather in the baseball cap of these pioneers of crossover, and will clearly make for an unstoppable live show.
